Cancellation letter templates

Pick the situation, fill in your details and get a clear, polite letter or email that asks the company to stop charging you and to confirm it in writing.

General information, not legal advice. These letters ask clearly and leave a dated record; they do not add rights you do not already have. Check the company's terms for how to cancel.

StreamNest

Re: Cancellation of StreamNest Premium, account SN-482913

Dear StreamNest customer services,

I am writing to cancel my StreamNest Premium subscription, account number SN-482913, with effect from the end of my current billing period.

Please stop all further payments after that date and do not renew the subscription automatically.

Please confirm in writing that my subscription has been cancelled, the date it ends, and that no further payments will be taken. You can reach me at jordan.lee@example.com.

Yours sincerely,

Jordan Lee

Every detail is filled in. Read it through once before you send it.

Your details are kept in this browser only, so they are here next time. "Clear my details" removes them.

Choosing and sending your letter

The standard letter suits most subscriptions. Use before a free trial ends to stop a trial turning into a paid plan, after a price increase when a price-change notice is your reason, renewal refund when a yearly plan renewed without you meaning it to, and membership with notice for gyms and clubs whose agreement asks for notice.

Anything still blank shows in the letter as a highlighted gap, so nothing missing slips through. If the service has a cancel button in your account settings, use that first: it is usually quickest. The letter, sent as an email or by post the way the company's terms describe, then gives you a dated record. Keep a copy and the reply.

Many places give a cooling-off period for contracts made online. In the UK it is usually 14 days for services (Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, regulation 30), and EU countries follow the Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU, with exceptions such as digital content you have already started to stream or download. Rules differ by country and change over time, so check a local consumer-advice service for your own case.

Questions

Do I have to give a reason?

Usually not. The reason box is optional; leave it empty and the letter simply asks to cancel.

What if they keep charging me after I cancel?

Reply with your copy of the letter and the date you sent it. If that does not work, your bank or card issuer can tell you what options you have.

Is this legal advice?

No. The templates are general wording written for this site. For a dispute, contact a consumer-advice service where you live.
