# Subscription cost tracker

Every streaming plan, app, box and membership in one list, converted to what it really costs per month and per year. Mark the ones you could drop and watch the savings add up.

## What it all costs

Per month$131.79

Per year$1,581.50

8 subscriptions, about $4.33 a day

**2 marked to cancel:** that would save $215.76 a year ($17.98 a month).

### Biggest categories per year

- Food and drink$468.00 a year
- Fitness$408.00 a year
- Video streaming$281.76 a year
- Apps and cloud$279.86 a year
- Music and audio$143.88 a year

## How the totals are worked out

Add each subscription with the price you pay each time and how often you are billed. The tracker turns every one into a **yearly** amount first: weekly prices times 52, monthly times 12, quarterly times 4. The **monthly** figure is that yearly amount divided by 12, so the two totals always agree.

**Worked example:** coffee bean delivery at $9 a week is $9 × 52 = $468 a year, or $39 a month: more than the $34 gym membership. A $99.99 yearly cloud plan comes to about $8.33 a month.

A year is 52 weeks and a day or two, so now and then a weekly charge is taken 53 times in a year; the tracker uses the usual 52.

Tick **Cancel?** on anything you could live without to see the yearly saving, sort by cost to put the biggest first, and use **Export CSV** for a copy that opens in any spreadsheet.

## Questions

**Why doesn't the monthly total match my bank statement?**

The tracker spreads weekly, quarterly and yearly charges evenly across the year. Your bank shows each charge in the month it is taken, so a yearly renewal makes one month look much higher.

**Where is my list kept?**

In your browser's local storage on this device, under the name mw-subs. Nothing is sent anywhere. "Clear all" removes it.

**Should I add free trials?**

Yes, at the price you will pay once the trial ends, then set a calendar alert with the free-trial reminder so you decide before the first charge.
